V-Blender Basics

V-blenders – also known as twin shell blenders – are characterized by their V-shape. This comes from the connection between two blending shells, leading to efficient blending of solids into liquids or solids into solids. These systems use diffusion to effectively blend materials, increasing mobility to individual particles to ultimately create a high state of homogeneity.

As the shell rotates, the materials inside are intermixed. Each cycle takes about 15 minutes, and different discharges are available for poor-flowing materials. This action makes the V-blender a perfect addition to any business in the pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, chemicals, and ceramic processing industries.

Hydrogenation: Major Applications

Hydrogenation is a billion-dollar industry. Hydrogenating means to add hydrogen to something. According to Haldor Topsoe, hydrogenation comprises 48% of total hydrogen consumption, 44% of which is for hydrocracking and hydrotreating in refineries , and 4% for hydrogenation of unsaturated hydrocarbons (including hardening of edible oil) and of aromatics, hydrogenation of aldehydes and ketones (for instance oxo-products), and hydrogenation of nitrobezene (for manufacture of aniline). Thermoplastics are a class of polymers, that with the application of heat, can be softened and melted, and can be processed either in the heat-softened state (e.g. by thermoforming) or in the liquid state (e.g. by extrusion and injection molding).
